Factor Xa protease is purified from bovine plasma activated by Russell's Viper Venom (RVV) from Factor X. VXA-50 is designed for use in laboratory inhibition assays (Anti-Xa tests) of heparin and LMW-heparin. Also cleaves fusion and other proteins containing Factor Xa recognition sites.

Each vial of VXA-50 contains 50 µg of Bovine Factor Xa, co-lyophilized with Tris buffer and mannitol stabilizers. Sealed glass container has a 20 ml capacity for reconstitution.

Bovine source: U.S. origin, USDA inspected herd

Purity: > 95% by SDS-PAGE analysis
Molecular weight: ~45,300 Da
Activity per vial: ~130 nKat/vial with synthetic pNA substrate
Activity of source enzyme: ~240 IU/mg Factor Xa

Product should be stored refrigerated (2-8°C) and is stable until expiry in the unopened state. Stable 1 month at 2-8°C once reconstituted. Shipment of unopened product does not require refrigeration.

Factor Xa converts prothrombin to thrombin. Synthetic peptides containing a C-terminal pNA (e.g. VXS-25) mimic the prothrombin cleavage site and allow use of Factor Xa in heparin and LMW-heparin inhibition assays. Factor Xa treatment can also be used to remove peptide sequences added to fusion proteins to aid purification.
